Censorship Board President Elaborates Statements Regarding Nude Scenes

President of the Egyptian censorship board Abdel Sattar Fathy has denied several statements that floated online on his behalf about the discontinuation of ordinary censorship and the application of the age-based rating system on films released to the public audience in Egyptian theaters, describing them as faulty quotes.

In an interview with , Fathy elaborated that during his appearance on the talk show “Egypt Today” with Mona Salman on Dream satellite channel, his speech was misunderstood. He confirmed that he and the rest of the censorship board members are actually considering applying the age-based rating system, and researching its feasibility, but applying the system still wont allow leaving explicitly nude scenes in the theatrical copies of foreign films.

Fathy also added that applying the age-based rating will lead to a decrease in the severity or the strictness of the censorship, so less scenes will be cut. But still, films preaching atheism or immorality will be completely banned from release in the country.
