He was born in 1940, in Mosul, Iraq. He joined the Institute of Fine Arts in 1957. Upon graduating in 1961,he was appointed as a teacher in the city of Mosul, but he turned down the job to pursue a career in the arts. Then he joined the Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from it in 1964. Immediately after his graduation, he was called up for mandatory military service as a reserve officer at the rank of second lieutenant. He spent his military service in the Armed Forces Radio (moral guidance) and was discharged from service in 1966. He was appointed as head of the Drama Department on TV 1979.
