An Egyptian writer and poet, was born in Cairo, on March 20, 1920. He is of Lebanese descent and her mother's family is from Damascus, Syria. When she was ten years old she was sent to a boarding school where she learned English and French. At the age of fourteen she traveled to Europe but returned again to Cairo to study at the American University in Cairo. She has lived in Paris since 1946. When she was 26 she married a biologist and had Michel and Louis Chedid. She began her literary career in 1943, and one of her artworks is the movie The Sixth Day. She died on February 6, 2011.
