In 1947, he settled in the capital, Damascus, and worked in the Damascus newspaper Al Insha until he became its editor-in-chief. His debut novel was titled "The Blue Lamps" and was published in 1954, after which his literary works continued. He wrote 30 novels, apart from the short stories. He was politically active at a young age, but decided against it to dedicate his life to literature. He has five children, including actor Saad Mena.
