His writing on contemporary Egyptian theatre has brought special attention to the issue of censorship. His daughter is the actress Yousra el Lozy. He's starred in Ahmed Abdallah's first two features "Heliopolis" (2009) and "Microphone" (2010) and has co-starred with his daughter in "Koblat Masrouqa" (Stolen Kisses) and Youssef Chahine's "Alexandria... New York" (2004). His other film credits include "The Situation," Mohamed Khan's "Faress el Madina," and Maggie Morgan's independent ensemble drama "Asham" (2013).
