Haifaa El Mansour is a Saudi writer and director, born in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia in 1974. She earned a bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature from the American University in Cairo, and continued on to earn a master's degree in film studies from the University of Sydney. Her directorial debut was with the short film "Who?", after which she directed many other short films. Her first feature film, Wajida (2012) was one of the leading experiences in Gulf independent Cinema, being the first-ever film to be shot entirely in the Saudi capital Riyadh. It has received many accolades, including three awards from Venice International Film Festival.
