He memorably played Major Frank Burns in the blockbuster comedy "MASH" (1970s) and then Tom Hagen in the classic "Godfather" series. In 1979, Duvall won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award (as well as an Oscar nomination) for "Apocalypse Now." His line "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" is considered iconic in cinema history. He won an Oscar for his performance in "Tender Mercies" (1983). Duvall has for decades been a favorite of the critics and audiences alike.
