In 1979, following a few more film roles, Douglas produced and starred in “The China Syndrome” co-starring Jane Fonda and Jack Lemmon about a nuclear power plant accident. It was considered “one of the most intelligent Hollywood films of the 1970s.” Douglas’ star rose considerably with “Romancing the Stone” (1984), which he produced and starred in with Kathleen Turner. In September 2013, Douglas won an Emmy for Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for “Behind the Candelabra.” Douglas began dating Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones in 1999; the two were married in 2000. They have two children. Recent gossip mags have claimed the two are separating. A representative for Zeta-Jones confirmed in mid-2013 that they were taking time apart to “evaluate and work on their marriage.”
