An American writer, producer and director. She was born in New York City in 1971. She studied at the California Academy of Arts, but did not complete her studies. At the beginning of her life, she participated in acting and writing with her father in some of his films, including: Peggy Sue Got Married, Rumble Fish, New York Stories, The Godfather Part III, but soon turned to writing and directing her own work. Her film debut was The Virgin Suicides (1999), which premiered at the Sundance International Film Festival, and her second film Lost in Translation won dozens of awards, especially the Best Original Screenplay at the 2004 Oscars.
