An American film director, screenwriter, producer who was born in Haiku, Hawaii. He moved to California when he was 19, where he graduated from film school at San Diego State University. He adapted his 2009 short film Short Term 12 into a feature film in 2013 starring Brie Larson. He collaborated with Brie Larson in other films: The Glass Castle (2017) and Just Mercy (2019). He co-wrote and directed Marvel Studios film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).
