A Dutch film director, cinematographer, and producer, born on October 22, 1943 in Eindhoven, Netherlands to a Dutch Catholic family. He studied at the Amsterdam Film Academy with Dutch avant-garde director Adriaan Ditvoorst and soon became a famous cinematographer. He has worked on a large number of films. Since the early 1980s, he has worked frequently in Hollywood, most notably as a director on Speed (1994), Twister (1996), Speed 2 (1997), The Haunting (1999), and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003).
