A Canadian actor and filmmaker, born to Geneviève Dolan, a Quebecois teacher, and Manuel Tadros, an Egyptian-Canadian actor and singer. As a child, he appeared in Le marchand de sable and The Hidden Fortress. His first feature film was I Killed My Mother, which he wrote, directed, and starred in. The film won three awards in the Director's Fortnight program at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a standing ovation. He followed it up with his second film, Heartbeats, then Laurence Anyways, which won the Un Certain Regard Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2013, his fourth film, Tom at the Farm, was shown in the official competition at the Venice Film Festival. His next film, Mommy, won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, ex-aequo with Goodbye to Language (2014).
