He is known for The French Connection (1971), Tootsie (1982), and The Exorcist (1973). He received five Academy Awards nominations for several of his films, such as Tootsie (1982), Wyatt Earp (1994), and Network (1976). He also received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Liza with a Z (1972). He died on January 6, 2023, in Encino, California, USA.
