American actor, born on July 12, 1908, in New York. He worked as an announcer for the NBC program, The Texaco Star Theater (1948–55). He was known for millions of viewers as "Uncle Miltie" and Mr. Television. He made his debut at the age of five by working in dozens of silent films. Then he worked in theater and radio before moving to television to gain huge popularity, to the extent that his fans called him “Mr. TV.” His health had deteriorated since he suffered a stroke in December 1998, and he was diagnosed with colon cancer in April 2001. He passed away while sleeping at his home in Los Angeles, at the age of 93, on March 27, 2002.
