An American producer, born on February 28, 1921, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Polish Jewish immigrant parents. Zaentz began working for Jazz at the Philharmonic and record company chairman Norman Granz in a job that involved managing concert tours for notable musicians, such as Duke Ellington. In 1967, Zeintz founded his own independent music record company, and his record sales quickly crossed astronomical records, while in 1976, he bought the rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit from United Artists. Two years later, he produced an animated film adapted from The Lord of the Rings. Zaentz passed away on January 3, 2014, in San Francisco, California, USA, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
