An American illustrator, designer, cartoon character animator, and producer. Stephen was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, and grew up in Anaheim, California. There he was fascinated by the ocean as a child, and began to be interested in art. He is best known as the writer of the series SpongeBob SquarePants, which was shown on Nickelodeon in 1999. He also taught marine biology at the Orange County Marine Institute, which inspired him to create the character SpongeBob.
