An American writer and poet, known for writing screenplays and plays, in addition to poetry. Robert Edwin Lee attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Ohio and became famous through the play Inherit the Wind (1955). In 1965, Robert co-founded the American Playwrights' Theatre. His plays were based on events from the history of the United States mixed with contemporary issues. His credits include Inherit the Wind (1960) and First Monday in October (1981).
