An American actress, born December 18, 1924, in Harlem, New York. She studied in New York University. She is known for providing strong female roles. Best known for her role in the movie West Side Story ,Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005).She won the Kennedy Center Award, Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
