A Japanese director and screenwriter, born in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. He was the youngest of five children in his family. He attended Nihon University, studying in the country's first film department, then he went to the literature department to study screenwriting. He is known for his participation in a number of works, such as Virus: The End (1980), Chûshingura gaiden: Yotsuya kaidan (1994), and Battle Royale (2000).
