He moved to New York with his family when he was seven years old to escape the Nazi regime. He started acting, directing and producing. He is known for The Graduate (1967), Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), and Closer (2004). He died on November 19, 2014 in Manhattan, New York City, aged 83.
