An American actress, she was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, in the United States. She is the daughter of Joan Douglas and granddaughter of the Hollywood actor Melvyn Douglas and his wife, Rosalind Hightower. After graduating from high school, she moved to New York and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1981. She is known for Ghost World (2001), Cape Fear (1991), and Factory Girl (2006).
