An American author, professor, and costume designer, born on May 26, 1952, to a Jewish family. In 1975, she graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with an MFA in costume design. She received a Ph.D. in the history of design from the Royal College of Art. She created creative costumes throughout her career, and her adaptability aided director John Landis in his movie The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977). She is known for Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Coming to America (1988), The Blues Brothers (1980), and Blues Brothers 2000 (1998).
