An Australian actor, born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, as Ronald Egan Randell. He married three times and had no children. Among his most important works are Bulldog Drummond Strikes Back (1947), King of Kings (1961), Kiss Me Kate (1953), and The Longest Day (1962). Ron began his career, which extended over 6 decades, by working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, then moved to theater work. At the Minerva Theatre from 1937 to 1946, he appeared intermittently in Australian films until his Australian film Smithy (1946) received acclaim led him to a contract in Hollywood, where he made his first film, It Had to Be You (1947). Ron had a major role in Hollywood cinema during the fifties and sixties, and he had a role in the golden age of television and appearances on Broadway and the Actors Studio. He continued his professional work until the mid-nineties. He died in Los Angeles, California, USA, as a result of complications from a stroke.
