An American stage, film, and television actor and radio presenter, born November 9, 1886, in Philadelphia. He is of Romanian and Turkish descent. He attended Central High School in Philadelphia until the age of 15. He began his staging career in 1903 and appeared as an actor in 1927. He died in Beverly Hills, California, at the age of 80 of esophageal cancer. He is best known for Alice in Wonderland (1951), The Diary of Anne Frank (1959), and Mary Poppins (1964).
