She gave her first theatrical performance at the Apollo Theatre. She was married to Andre' Morell in 1959 and had a child, She remained with him until he died in 1978. Joan was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1964 for Best Supporting Actress for the 1963 film Tom Jones. She won the Steckers Award in 1978 for Worst Supporting Actress for The Hound of the Baskervilles 1978. Her most important works: The Importance of Being Earnest (1952), Tom Jones (1963), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), and The Hound of the Baskervilles (1978). She died in Chelsea, on February 28, 1987 of a heart attack.
