He began his career in vaudeville theaters, before storming the world of cinema in the early thirties, where Bud Abbott and Le Castillo participated in their comedies and played the role of the villain in the comedies of the fifties. In 1956, he joined the Three Stooges team replacing Shimp Howard, his friend, who died in 1955, but he left the team in 1958 to be next to his sick wife. He spent the sixties in film and television appearances. He was the ninth child born to Maurice and Fanny Besser, Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe, and he had 7 older sisters and an older brother, Manny, who worked in the field of Jewish comedies. In 1944, the Columbia Company signed a contract with him and brought him to Hollywood to participate in musical comedy, playing, singing and performing comedies in films, such as Hey, Rookie (1944) with Ann Miller and Larry Parks and the movie Eadie was a Lady (1945) with Ann Miller and William Wright. In 1988, he suffered from heart failure that ended his life at the age of 80 years.
