An American actress, she was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 17, 1915. She was married twice and had three children. She started dancing in her mid-teens, and began her film career appearing as a dancing girl. She's known for The Desperadoes (1943), Forty Naughty Girls (1937), Charlie Chan on Broadway (1937) and The Ten Commandments (1956). Joan died in 1989 of respiratory complications after contracting tuberculosis, at age 73.
