He was working for WNEW-AM in New York at the time. He was a founding member of the Next Generation Initiative, a leadership program aimed to engage students in public affairs. After leaving CBS, he formed his own television production company with CBS news editor Ed Danko. He was known for Matinee (1993), Moon Over Parador (1988), and The Package (1989). He died on August 31, 2008, due to heart failure.
