An American actor, he was born in New York City, on September 24, 1886. Burke was married to actress Eleanor Durkin and had no children, and she remained with him until her death in 1957. He began his career on stage in 1912, then moved to films in 1933. He's known for Charlie Chan's Murder Cruise (1940), At the Circus (1939), College Humor (1933) and The Maltese Falcon (1941). He focused on television from the early 50s, including the series Lassie (1961-1962). He died of heart disease in 1968, at age 81.
