He is a Scottish-Canadian actor, born on December 14, 1983, in Springburn, Glasgow, UK. His brother is Steve Hemphill. He graduated with honors from the University of Glasgow with a MA in theater, film, and television. He is known for Still Game (2002-2019), Gasping (2014), and West Skerra Light (2016). He is married to Julie Wilson Nimmo, with whom he has one child.
