American actor born in Spokane, Washington, US on 27 June 1907. His most notable works include The Rescuers (1977), The Asphalt Jungle (1950), Psycho (1960), and Turner & Hooch (1989). He received several awards including a Golden Eagle in 1975. He married twice and had two children. He died of lung cancer on 30 January 1991 in Pasadena, California, US.
