A British jazz musician, bandleader, trombonist, songwriter and actor, born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, UK on April 17, 1930 as Donald Christopher Barber. He was married four times and had two children. Among his notable works are Jonathan Creek (2004), The Hypnotist (1957), and Ocean’s Eight (2018). He learned the violin at the age of seven, and received his education at Hanley Castle Grammar School. After the end of the war, he joined St Paul's School, listened to jazz music and spent 3 years at the Guildhall School of Music. He played professionally with friends, and formed a jazz band, which was awarded a gold disc. In 1991, he received an OBE for his services to music. He died in the UK on March 2, 2021 of dementia, at the age of 90.
