Biography

A Lebanese comedian and writer of Palestinian origin, Abdul Salaam al-Nabulsy was born in Akka (1899). He began as a writer for the magazines “Misr al-gedeeda” and “al-Lataa’ef al-Masreyya”. His first big break came when Director Asia nominated him to star in the film Belle of...Read more Desert. He has appeared in the following 1930’s film; The Straightway, The Determination, and Laila, the Girl from Countryside. Al-Nabulsy has taken part in more than 10 films with renowned singer Fareed al-Atrash, among them are: Little Miss Devil, The Final Lie and Come and Say Hello. He also appeared as Abdul Haleem Haafez’s friend in several films like; The Man of My Dreams and Love Street. In late 1950s, Abdul Salaam produced and starred many films like; Love of My Life and Ladies Hairdresser. In early 1960s, he went back to his home country Lebanon, there he opened his own production company and starred in Lebanese films such as; Audience Sweetheart, Paris and Love and Joys of Young People. He also wrote poems for Al-Shabaka magazine. While he portrayed some evil if not too violent characters, his filmography was generally characterized by comic roles. He died in Tripoli, Lebanon, 1968.
