Toni Collette is an Australian actress who was born in Sydney, Australia on November 1, 1972. She showed her acting talent when she faked appendicitis because she was bored and was seeking attention. Aged only 16, she left school and joined the National Institute of Dramatic Arts. Collette was a struggling actress and supported herself by delivering pizza. In order to work in her film debut The Efficiency Expert, she left NIDA after only 18 months. The movie earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Australian Film Institute. "Uncle Vanya", Collete’s stage debut, earned her a Critic's Circle Award as Best Newcomer. At the age of 22, she won the Australian Best Actress in a Lead Role award for her role in Muriel’s Wedding. One year later, she went to Hollywood, where she got a supporting role in The Pallbearer, followed by numerous supporting roles. Even though her previous movies had earned her nominations and wins in Australia, her supporting role in The Sixth Sense was the one to earn her a deserved nomination for the Academy Awards. She married Dave Galafassi and co-owns an independent production company in Australia.
