Richard Armitage is an English actor. He was born in Leicester, England, and studied music, dance and acting at Pattison College in Coventry. Following his graduation, Armitage pursued a career in musical theater, performing in productions like “42nd Street” and “Annie Get Your...Read more Gun.” He then enrolled at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art to further study acting, after which he returned to the stage as a supporting actor with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Armitage's first major television role was in 2002 in the BBC drama Sparkhouse. After this he took supporting roles in several television productions, and landed his first lead role in 2004 in the BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. Armitage's roles on film include that of Thorin Oakenshield in “The Hobbit” trilogy, and the 2014 found footage sci-fi “Into the Storm”.
