She made her film debut in the acclaimed film about cult indoctrination "Martha Marcy May Marlene" with Elizabeth Olsen after acting in a few short films at Columbia University. Garner was cast as the lead in "Electrick Children" (2013) about a 15-year-old Mormon girl who believes she has become pregnant through immaculate conception after listening to rock music on a tape cassette. Her community sees her as disobedient and arranges a quick marriage for her. She daringly escapes with her brother Las Vegas to seek out the voice on the tape. Her strong performance in the beautifully shot indie has been widely praised by critics.
