"Lawrence of Arabia" in Cannes Classics today

A renovated version of "Lawrence of Arabia" will be screened today in Cannes Classics celebrating the 50th anniversary of the film, directed by David Lean.In this film Lean portrays the biography of English military officer T.E. Lawrence who led the Arab revolution against British and Ottomans after World War I, and contributed to the radical change in the area.This four hour saga was filmed in a year, showing a picture perfect image of the desert, the detailed history of the Arab clans and their leaderships and the character of Lawrence that was discussed in may psychiatry books.This film was the launching point for Omar El-Sherif's career as he was nominated for best supporting actor for his role.The film was nominated for 10 Oscars, of which it won 7 including best picture and best director. The film is among the top 10 for the American Film Institute list.
