Filmmakers and stars urge for the freedom of Syrian director Orwa Nyrabia.

"American actor Robert Di Nero; Freedom to Orwa"That was a short You Tube video posted by Hollywood star Robert Di Nero in solidarity with international filmmakers and stars to urge the Syrian authorities to free Syrian director Orwa Nyrabia.Nyrabia disappeared in Syrian prisons since 23 August when he was arrested at Damascus International Airport for his continuous objection for the Syrian regime on his Facebook page.24 international and American cinema associations, unions and organizations signed a petition demanding the Syrian authorities to immediately free Nyrabia and assured their faith that art and filmmaking is a vital and important issue for the survival of societies and cultures. They also defended the right of all filmmakers to practice their art everywhere and to decrease the distances between different people by sharing stories and experiences. The statement in the petition assured that they will never stop focusing the light on Nyrabia's case until he is freed and safely returned to his family. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and the International Association for Documentaries and other organizations that represent thousands of filmmakers signed this petition.Nyrabia studied acting and graduated from the High Institute for Arts in 1999 in Damascus, owner of "Proaction Film" and one of the organizers of the Cinema of Reality Festival in 2008 in Syria. Nyrabia also acted in Yosry Nasrallah's famous film "Bab Al Shams".
