“Mama” scares off box office films and sits on top!

At its week debut intheaters; the horror film “Mama” collected $ 28.1 million which placed it onthe top of the North American box office. “Mama” is directed by AndresMuschietti and stars Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Going down from firstplace last week to second is Oscar’s front runner-up for Best Picture “Zero DarkThirty” by Kathryn Bigelow which was widely criticized since it hit theatersfive weeks ago for its justification for the violent interrogations made by theUS army in their hunt of Osama Bin Laden.However, its competitor in the Oscars “Silver Linings Playbook” takes ahuge jump from tenth to third place with $11.3 million to make its gross so far$55.2 million in its tenth week in theaters.

Coming in fourth placeis “Gangster Squad” where it raised $9.1 million this week and right after itin fifth place is new comer “Broken City” which made $9 million. “Broken City”stars Russell Crowe, Marc Wahlberg and Catherine Zeta-Jones and is directed byAlan Hughes.

“Haunted House” goesdown from second place to sixth place this week after adding to its total gross$8.3 million to make it a total of $29.9 million and coming in seventh place isQuentin Tarantino’s "Django Unchained" which made $8.2 million thisweek. As for the Oscar nominated musical “Les Miserables” it sits in eighthplace by making $7.8 million this week to make Universal’s total gross from itafter four weeks of releasing $130.3 million.

As for “The Hobbit: AnUnexpected Journey” it continues its journey down the box office as it reached ninth place with $6.4 million, while thisweek’s third newcomer “ The Last Stand” debuts in tenth place by raising $6.3million.
