British " Underworld" actress Kate Beckinsale is now in talks to star as the titular leading lady in Brad Anderson's new film "Eliza Graves," adapted from an Edgar Allen Poe short story written in 1845. Anderson's " The Call" opened this week in American theaters.

"Eliza Graves" is adapted from Poe's "The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether," about a mental institution that uses unusually liberal methods of treatment, allowing patients to wander about freely and doctors to encourage the patients' delusions.

According to ScreenRant.com, screenwriter Joseph Gangemi has altered a few bits to make the main character Eliza Graves, a Harvard Medical School graduate who arrives to the site out of curiosity and begins to fall in love with one of the doctors. She comes to realize, though, that things are not as they seem.

The team will start shooting on June 21, 2013 in Bulgaria. Mel Gibson is also on board as a producer, as well as "Paranormal Activity" creator Oren Peli.
