Dorreya Sharaf Eddin has been chosen to head the Egyptian Information Ministry, making the former Maspero employee the first woman to head the ministry. Yesterday she met with interim Prime Minister Hezam al-Beblawy, whose final cabinet appointments should be announced this week.

She expressed her pride in taking up the post, and told press "we will pass through this phase. I trust my colleagues highly... Taking charge of a ministry is not easy. The timing is also hard. Everyone expects a lot from this government, even though it is an interim."

Eddin is also the author of books "Policy and Cinema of the 1950s" and "Policy and Cinema in Egypt." She is also a member and spokesperson for the National Council on Women, and hosted a show about cinema for a number of years.
