Maamar and his young wife work among dozens of village workers for an exploitative man who owns a fishing fleet and a factory for canned fish. As Maamar rescues a girl from an accident in which she almost dies, a relationship develops between them, and he compares her to his simple wife, grows attached to her, and abandons his wife to search for her.
