Inman meets Ada in Cold Mountain,where they fall in love. He gets assigned military duty to serve during the Civil War, changing their lives completely. Ada struggles with hardship and hunger, and he fights for his life everyday. She writes to him, asking him to come back to her, and he decides to leave the military and makes his way back on a journey more difficult than they imagined.
