When a woman kills herself by stopping her car on a railway, Tom, the train engineer who unintentionally killed her, is pursued by her young son Davey after he flees the home of a mean foster parent. As the boy asks Tom and his wife Megan to take him in and bring him up, it turns out that Megan has terminal cancer.
