Nicholas Brody, a Marine Scout Sniper who was held captive by Al-Qaeda as a POW, arrives back in his homeland to be hailed as a hero by everyone, except for Carrie Mathison, a CIA officer with bipolar disorder, who has come to believe that Brody has defected and now threatens the US.


With Carrie trying to get her job at the CIA back, she goes on the hunt for Abu Nazir. Brody is forced to reevaluate his allegiances, leading to a surprising alliance.


As the CIA goes on the offensive in the aftermath of the bombing, Carrie and Saul concoct a plot to use Majid Javadi to get information about the operations in Iran.


Carrie gets embroiled in the hunt for a known terrorist, Haissam Haqqani, in Pakistan, but her mission puts Saul's life on the line, leaving her scrambling to rescue Saul and bring down Haqqani.


Two years after Carrie walked out on the CIA, she is drawn back into her old life after an assassination attempt brings old faces back into her life. Saul investigates the leaking of CIA documents, which reveals a conspiracy that hits too close to home for him.


As Peter Quinn struggles to get back on his feet following a downward spiral, a conspiracy that involves the female president-elect pits Saul and Dar Adal against each other.


As Carrie comes to terms with the truth about President Keane, she takes it upon herself to fight for the freedom of the members of the intelligence community whom Keane has incarcerated.


As Carrie recuperates from her time in a harsh Russian prison, Saul contacts her after he is appointed as National Security Advisor, a post that leaves him with the tough task of starting peace negotiations with the Taliban.
