The Al-Sa'idin alliance approaches the city of Fes in order to seize it, and the ruler is saddened because he doesn't have an heir that can protect the city from the attackers. The ruler has another wife to beget him an heir.

On the day of his wedding, the ruler falls ill as he was subjected to a poisoning attempt and his new wife stands by him. Meanwhile, his brother Al-Monzer, tries to incite him to go to war against the Turk, but the ruler rejects the idea. The doctor reports that Al-Hurra is pregnant.

The first wife visits the palace to see Al-Hurra and the maidens of the two wives quarrel. The leader's brother plots with the servant to be his eye to facilitate taking over the throne.

The first wife accuses Al-Hurra of assaulting her, but the ruler doesn't validate the accusations. The ruler tries to be fair to both wives to avoid any future quarrels. Meanwhile, he is busy trying to spare Morocco a threatening war with the Ottoman Empire on one hand, and the Spanish on the other.

Al-Hurra asks a servant to bring her a herb, and the ruler suspects that Al-Hurra had a hand in poisoning attempt. Unable to make up his mind, the ruler goes into the woods to contemplate the matter thoroughly, and the two wives try to come to terms with one another.

The ruler is busy trying to find a way to protect Morocco from possible threats. Al-Hurra's doubts intensify as she thinks that the ruler only married her to beget him an heir. The ruler decides to leave the palace for a couple of days to attend to some matters.

In the woods, the ruler arrests someone who has been spying on him. Meanwhile, Al-Mundhiri urges the ruler to strengthen the castle's fortifications to protect it against the Turks and the Spaniards. A rumor is spread that Al-Sa'idin attacked the castle and massacred everyone.

Al-Hurra suspects that it is the ruler's first wife who spread the rumor. Meanwhile, the ruler is worried that Al-Hurra might still be nostalgic for her first lover, so he enlists the help of a charlatan to enchant her so that she would love him forever.

Khawla and Ali meet in the woods and they discuss love and marriage among other things. However, the ruler issues a decree prohibiting anyone from leaving the house unless they have a valid reason. The ruler's first wife goes to the Jewish magician.

The charlatan finishes performing the bewitching rituals on a pair of shoes, and just as his servant is going to the castle to give the pair to the ruler, the first wife's maiden beats the charlatan's servant and takes one of the pair.

Khawla is torn between Ali, who loves her and makes her a pot, and Mohammed who wants to marry her. The ruler gifts Al-Hurra with the 'shoe' and tells her that she has bewitched him, and he's head over heels in love with her. Ali is getting attached to Khawla, and his love for Al-Hurra subsides.

Everybody is searching for the missing shoe, but to no avail. In the woods, Khawla meets Mohammed and they quarrel. Ali comes to the rescue and takes Khawla back to the palace, but he doesn't inform anyone that it was Mohammed who did this to her.

The servant catches Farida's maiden and strangles her to know where the shoe is. A maiden feigns sickness at Al-Hurra's room, so the ruler takes her to his brother's house. Mohammed returns to the palace and reproaches his brother for his deed.

The ruler has Mohammed tortured for his hideous act, and Khawla tells her mother that she won't take him for a husband. The ruler learns that it was his first wife who stole the shoe, so they quarrel and he throws her out of the palace.

Khawla makes it clear that she won't marry Mohammed, and she insists that she and her mother return to their home; she bids Ali farewell. Al-Hurra eventually accepts to get back to the ruler provided that they return to her father's house.

As Khawla and her mother are leaving, Ali appears and he proposes to Kahwla; her father agrees, but insists that they marry after the war ends. The country is torn between the inside civil war between the tribes, and the outside threat that is the Turks.

Khawla and Ali return to Fes after their marriage, and the Sultan sends with them a letter to the ruler warning him that the war is coming their way. Al-Hurra and her husband return to their palace, and there, she finds a bloody dagger on the bed.

The maiden tries to poison Al-Hurra, and Hassan's servant also tries to murder the ruler. Both intruders are arrested and interrogated.

The maiden is found dead in the garden, and they try to learn who murdered her. Al-Hurra gives birth, but Al-Mundhiri is upset that it's a girl, not a boy. Ali rejoices at the news that Khawla is pregnant.

Mohammed proposes to the servant's daughter, and despite her initial objection, she eventually accepts to marry him. Khawla loses consciousness as she sees Ali conversing with Al-Hurra, and she is advised to stay in bed because her condition is serious.

Farida plots a scheme to make the ruler suspect Al-Hurra's faithfulness. Ali is imprisoned, and Al-Hurra tries to find a way to exonerate herself and Ali, and their innocence is proven.

The ruler confronts his wife and decides to divorce her, so Fath El-Zahr sees a sorceress in an attempt to make the ruler return to her. Ali rejoices when Khawla gives birth to a boy, but a growing sense of danger is manifesting as the war is approaching.

The brothers agree to conclude an economic treaty with the Turks, and join forces to face the Spaniards. Al-Mundhiri loses his eyesight, but only his personal butler knows this.

Al-Hurra brings a doctor to examine the ruler, and the doctor reports that Al-Mundhir has completely lost his sight. Meanwhile, Fath El-Zahr begs the ruler not to divorce her, but he throws her out.

The ruler has his brother Hassan arrested, but he is exempted at the last moment. Fath El-Zahr repents and abandons her foul practices. The ruler is pleased with his daughter Fatema, who's growing into one successful and courageous young lady.

Fath El-Zahr learns about the ruler's blindness, and she asks her brother to meet the ruler. The ruler passes away and everyone is grief-stricken. Hassan's daughter goes to Tétouan to console the mourners.

Hassan takes charge of the matters of the Emirate and announces himself the legitimate heir to the throne, but his intentions are thwarted as Al-Hurra informs him that the ruler left her all his possessions. Hassan plots with the Italian Resident-General to attack Tétouan. Fatema is kidnapped.

A number of Tétouanians are kidnapped, among which is Fatema whose cousin assured her that he's not her jailer; he's there to protect her because he is her half-brother. Al-Hurra has Hassan arrested for kidnapping her daughter.

Hassan's wife passes away after she visits her husband in his abominable cell. Hassan's daughter begs Al-Hurra to release her father, but she refuses to do so until her own daughter is released. The ruler's son decides not to attack Ceuta. Ali, Khawla, and their son live peacefully together.

Fatema asks her mother to allow Ahmed to live with them. Hassan is still dreaming of becoming the ruler, and he resumes his schemes with his son-in-law. Before she dies, Al-Hurra gives her daughter Fatema a book documenting the public history of Morocco and her own personal diaries.
