In 1951 Tripoli, the daughter of leader Sulayman Al-Baruni announces she will write his biography. A flashback reveals Sulayman Al-Baruni's efforts in fighting colonialism and establishing an independent republic, while Bashir Saadawi encourages the farmers to revolt against the colonizer.

Ululations of a Martyr

Sulayman leads the battles of the resistance against the Italian colonizer in Tripoli, as Bashir leads the resistance in Al-Khums, resulting in casualties on both sides. Many of the resistance fighters are captured and executed in what is henceforth known as the Martyrs' Square of Tripoli.

Slates and Quran

Grieving his comrades, Bashir takes shelter in his Misrata house. A flashback to 1887 features a young Sulayman as he travels to Tunisia where he plunges into the world of patriotic activism, while Bashir embarks on a journey of self-discovery, starting at a collective Quran-recital gathering.

The Ordeal

It's the year 1897. Sulayman resumes his journey in Algeria, learning religion and literature. At the port, on his way back to Tripoli, he is arrested and charged with treason; the prosecutor accuses him of conspiring against the Ottoman Empire.

Adversities of Time

In 1950, Za'ima meets Ibrahim to get more information about her father for her book. A flashback reveals Sulayman's acquittal. Two years after that, he is retried and imprisoned for five years for conspiring against the ruling regime.

Willpower of Men

A new chapter in Sulayman's life begins in the Citadel prison in Tripoli. Meanwhile, Bashir tells his mentor Haqqy Nashas about his desire to become a political leader in the future. The years of imprisonment come to an end, and in 1901, Sulayman is released.

War of Pens

When Sulayman congratulates Sherif Pasha on the opening of the Al-Moshir market, Sherif warns him that his messages to scholars abroad were discovered, and an order went out for his arrest. Sulayman flees to Egypt and then to Turkey where he is chosen as a member of the Chamber of Deputies.

Treaty of Lausanne

In 1909, Sulayman is surprised by the fatwa (ruling) of the National Assembly to overthrow Sultan Abdul Hamid II, which upends the power balance in Turkey. Two years later, Sulayman returns to Jadu, Libya, while the conditions of the Ottoman Empire go to wrack and ruin.

The Blood of Martyrs

In the aftermath of the Italian control imposed by the Treaty of Ouchy, Sulayman and Bashir meet to discuss ways to boost the resistance against the colonizer. Sulayman is injured in the Battle of Jendouba against the Italians, and during the bloody clashes, many martyrs sacrifice their lives.

Immortal Pages

After the Battle of Jendouba, Sulayman receives the news of his father's death and the news that the army of the enemy is approaching. He flees to Tunisia before he gets arrested. A flashforward to the 50s reveals the death of Za'ima's and Ibrahim's mother, joining Sulayman in heavens.

Death and Rebirth

In 1914 Istanbul, Sultan Mehmed V grants Sulayman membership of the Senate of the Ottoman Empire. On his way back to Libya, Sulayman is arrested on the Egyptian-Libyan borders on charges of conspiring and igniting the spark of revolution against the English colonialism in Egypt.

The Commander

Bashir contacts his brother Noury who tells him he, Bashir, has been chosen as a Commander of Yanbu, a region in Hejaz. In 1916, the English colonizers in Egypt issue an edict releasing Sulayman.

Letters of Souls

In 1916, Sulayman returns to Tripoli and chooses the Aziziyah region as the central rallying point for the resistance. Meanwhile, Bashir continues to turn down all positions and temptations offered to buy him off in order to remain the patriotic fighter that he is.

Call of Right

In 1919, the Ben Yadem Treaty between Libya and Italy is signed, and it grants the Libyans the right to form a parliament and a national army. In 1920, Sulayman is accused of rebellion, and the Italian governor issues a decree for his exile.

The Patriots

The Gharyan conference is held, and a transitional government is formed to reform the country and confront colonialism. Bashir is chosen as a member. Sulayman is exiled and goes to Italy, but when he learns that the Italian authorities are after him, he flees to France where he's arrested.

Farewell, O Land of Prosperity

Bashir meets with the Italian government in Libya and objects to their colonial looting and oppression. Sulayman is put under house arrest in Marseille. A flashforward to the 1950s reveals Za'ima's shock when the publishing house rejects her book because she is a woman in a misogynistic society.

Pledge of Allegiance

The Egyptian ambassador tells Sulayman that his request to seek asylum in Egypt has been rejected. Meanwhile, the Italian government in Tripoli cuts off contact between the delegations of Tripoli and Cyrenaica, as a prelude to stopping the unification of the two regions.

A Light That Can't Be Dimmed

Prince Muhammad Idris of Libya is chosen as a king after the unification of Cyrenaica, Tripolitania, and Fezzan, the thing that enrages the Italian government that responds with colonial expansion and issues a decree to have Bashir executed. Bashir leaves Libya as Sulayman is arrested in Tunisia.
