After her mother's death, corporate lawyer Sydney Strait is asked by her father, with whom she's been at odds, to return to work at his civil rights firm, to which she reluctantly agrees, whereupon she handles a case against a chemical company as it turns out one of their products causes cancer.

Sydney and Elijah take on an evil seed manufacturing company that's been harassing farmers into buying their product. Meanwhile, Anthony and Jake handle a case that involves the stealing of a recipe.

With George's retrial drawing close, Elijah and Jake try their best to prove his innocence. Meanwhile, a former law professor of Sydney and Anthony's approaches them about a case that turns out to involve an unexpected twist.

Following the killing of a young woman in a protest against an extremist group, Elijah is hired to sue the group's leader. Meanwhile, Sydney helps Della decide to whom the estate of her mother's deceased friend should go.

A young girl approaches Sydney and Elijah to sue the government for causing her town to be flooded and her family to be displaced. Della tries to help an old blues musician reclaim the rights to a song he wrote years ago.

When the wife of an old colleague dies from an opioid overdose, Elijah and Sydney try to help him bring the responsible party to justice. Elijah feels conflicted about his feeling for a woman he met.

Army General Virginia Howe, Emerson's mother, seeks Elijah's help in a high-stakes case that involves the Department of Defense. Meanwhile, Della deals with family issues.

Elijah is approached by his pastor, who asks him to take on the case of Ava Fuller, a Catholic teacher who's been fired for receiving IVF treatment. As Briana's nephew is not allowed to join his school's wrestling team, Anthony decides to help him.
