He was born in Baghdad in 1938. He participated in his first theatrical work, The Kids’ Teacher, while he was in the fifth grade. Upon graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1964, he was summoned to serve in the army and entered the Reserve College, like his fellow Bachelor’s and Master’s graduates. After six months, he graduated with the rank of lieutenant, and was referred to work at the Armed Forces Radio, then worked as a radio director. He worked with the July 14 theater troupe and the National Acting Troupe, and in 1987 he co-founded the Dar El Salaam theater troupe, through which they presented popular plays, including Money and a Bride. He gained fame through his participation in the comedy series Under the Barber's Razor, which was broadcast for the first time in the sixties. Like many artists, he left Iraq and went to Syria, where he presented comedies criticizing the situation in Iraq after the US invasion in 2003, such as Love Militia (2006) and Citizen G (2007). Among his most prominent plays is Kingdom of Beggars. He also wrote and directed many theatrical works, including: The Emperor, and Saeed Action. His cinematic work includes: Love in Baghdad, and 100%. He died in a hospital in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on December 1, 2007.
