Egyptian folk singer and actor from Tahta, Sohag. While working at a textile mill in Shoubra he met Moustafa Morsi, a famous folk poet who took him under his wing and taught him the art of folk singing and improvisation. He sang at many local fairs and then joined the Egyptian radio. He appeared in many films starting 1956, most notably Lady Aziza (1961), Viva Zalata (1976), and The Nightingale's Prayer (1959). He passed away on November 12, 1996.
